Our work with Health Department

Working Together with the Health Department

At the Leprosy People Association (LPA), we believe that real impact happens when civil society and public institutions work hand in hand. Our collaboration with the Health Department is a cornerstone of our strategy to ensure healthier, more informed, and empowered communities.

This partnership is built on mutual respect, transparency, and a shared goal: bringing health services closer to the people who need them most.

Community-Level Outreach with Health Teams

LPA members are active participants in outreach efforts alongside Public Health Inspectors (PHIs), Medical Officers of Health (MOHs), and field staff. We support the Health Department in:

  • Door-to-door visits

  • Village-level screening programs

  • Mobile health camps

  • Follow-ups and awareness activities

Our community presence makes it easier for health professionals to connect with families, especially in hard-to-reach areas.

Bridging Gaps, Building Trust

Many people hesitate to access health services due to fear, stigma, or lack of information. As trusted community members, LPA plays a unique role in bridging the gap between the health system and the people.

We help:

  • Translate medical messages into community language

  • Explain treatment processes with patience

  • Encourage people to attend check-ups and follow-ups

  • Support families during referrals and hospital visits

Planning and Review with Health Authorities

Our involvement isn’t just on the ground—it’s also in the strategy rooms. LPA participates in:

  • Quarterly district review meetings

  • Joint planning sessions

  • Health promotion strategy development

  • Training programs led by Medical Officers and public health experts

This ensures our community insights directly inform health department planning and decision-making.

Supporting Public Health Goals

Whether it’s in epidemic control, non-communicable disease awareness, or hygiene promotion, LPA proudly aligns with public health campaigns. We see ourselves as community mobilizers and health allies.

Through our ongoing partnership with the Health Department, we help make public health more inclusive, responsive, and rooted in real community needs.

One Vision, Many Hands

Our collaboration with the Health Department shows the power of working together. When public systems and people’s movements unite, barriers break, trust grows, and lives change.

At LPA, we are proud to be a bridge between communities and the health system—building a healthier future, one village at a time.
