Our work with community

Our Community Connection: LPA in Action

At the Leprosy People Association (LPA), community is at the heart of everything we do. While our roots are deep in advocacy and empowerment, our branches stretch wide—touching lives and bringing positive change across all levels of society. This page is dedicated to showcasing how we actively engage with the wider community through creative partnerships, inclusive participation, and shared goals for a better future.

Building Trust at the Grassroots Level

We believe that meaningful change starts by listening. Our team spends time with local groups, elders, youth clubs, women’s collectives, and village committees—learning from their experiences and exploring ways to grow together. By showing up with sincerity, we’ve become a trusted presence in the daily lives of people, not just an organization.

Through informal gatherings, storytelling circles, village visits, and collaborative events, we build bonds that go beyond programs. These interactions help us understand real community needs and allow us to walk alongside them—not ahead of them.

Collaborating with Community-Based Organizations

Our work is strengthened by the energy and commitment of local organizations. From farming cooperatives to youth movements, from faith-based groups to volunteer networks—we recognize the power of existing community structures.

We regularly join hands with these groups for community-led campaigns, awareness walks, livelihood training, youth leadership programs, and shared celebrations. These collaborations aren’t one-time events—they are long-term relationships built on mutual respect and shared values.

Raising Community Voices

At LPA, we ensure community voices are not only heard—but uplifted and amplified. We organize forums and public discussions where local people speak about their needs, dreams, and solutions. We believe solutions work best when they come from the people themselves.

Our role is to create safe spaces for open conversation, support community leaders to step forward, and ensure every voice is valued—regardless of age, gender, or background.

Community Events & Participatory Action

From street drama to art workshops, from environmental cleanups to cultural festivals—our team is always finding creative ways to bring people together. These events go beyond awareness—they build belonging.

We engage schools, local businesses, and youth groups in our community initiatives. By inviting everyone to participate, we foster a sense of ownership and shared responsibility for positive change.

Capacity Building & Skill Sharing

Change begins when communities believe in their own power. We offer regular training programs and workshops in leadership, conflict resolution, financial literacy, and community development.

But we don’t come with ready-made answers. Instead, we encourage skill-sharing, peer learning, and resource exchange between different community groups—so the growth is mutual and sustainable.

A Network of Unity and Support

Over the years, LPA has become more than an association—it’s a network of hope, courage, and connection. Every partnership we form, every event we host, every person we listen to—it all adds strength to this network.

Whether it’s a youth camp in the North or a community garden in the East, our work is stitched together by the belief that real change happens when communities come together.
