Working Beyond Health: LPA’s Strong Partnerships for a Holistic Community Transformation
The Leprosy People’s Association (LPA) is not just an organization focused on leprosy. It is a powerful movement working toward an inclusive, empowered, and stigma-free society. While our foundation is built on health-related initiatives, our impact extends far beyond—through strong and meaningful collaborations with a diverse range of institutions and departments.
We believe true change can only happen when every sector of society comes together to support people affected by leprosy—not just to cure, but to uplift lives in every aspect.
LPA works collaboratively with several key government and non-government institutions to ensure holistic development for individuals and communities. Our partners include:
Departments of Economy, Agriculture, and Industry
We promote self-reliance through agricultural empowerment, vocational training, and sustainable livelihoods. Collaborations with the Palmyrah Development Board, Coconut Development Board, and Industrial Development Authority help people affected by leprosy to start small-scale businesses, farm initiatives, and cottage industries.
Department of Education
Understanding the importance of education, we coordinate with local education departments to ensure that children from affected families are enrolled, supported, and empowered through scholarships, supplies, and school awareness programs.
Disaster Management Department
People affected by leprosy are often among the most vulnerable during natural disasters. Our joint efforts focus on relief distribution, preparedness training, and integrating leprosy-affected families into regional disaster response systems.
Social Services Department
With their support, we help affected individuals access their rightful benefits such as disability allowances, social protection schemes, and counseling support for families.
Banking Institutions and Microfinance Services
We work closely with banks and cooperatives to secure loan schemes, promote financial literacy, and support economic independence through sustainable income generation.
We actively build alliances with NGOs, community-based organizations (CBOs), women’s groups, and youth clubs. This grassroots collaboration allows us to carry our messages into the heart of the community, promoting inclusivity and support for those affected by leprosy.
We also work with sports clubs and cultural groups to organize village events and competitions that combine awareness with recreation, helping break stigma in a fun and engaging way.
We recognize the role of the media in shaping public opinion. LPA actively partners with:
Print and digital newspapers
Radio and TV stations
Online platforms and influencers
Through joint campaigns, human-interest stories, interviews, and social media outreach, we bring forward the voices of people affected by leprosy, challenge harmful stereotypes, and promote awareness across the country.
Our work is not limited to programs or projects—it’s about building a movement. A movement where leprosy is no longer seen as a barrier. Where government institutions, NGOs, the media, and the public stand together with us.
Our collaboration model is a reflection of what we believe in:
Inclusion. Respect. Dignity. Empowerment.
